Slovenia: Deputy PM and Agriculture Minister resigns

Just before a no-confidence vote in parliament for corruption

05 October, 21:50
(ANSA) - LUBIANA, 05 OTT - In Slovenia today, Deputy PM and Agriculture Minister Aleksandra Pivec resigned. A few days ago, she had also left the leadership of the Pensioners' Party (DeSUS), a member of the ruling coalition. The minister, regional media reported, announced her resignation in parliament, a few hours ahead of a no-confidence vote.

Pivec has strongly contested the allegations of corruption and administrative irregularities raised against her. "I resign because I do not want politics to decide on my dismissal," she said before the parliament. "Never in the history of independent Slovenia had a politician been ousted in such an orchestrated and demeaning manner," added Pivec, who underlined her intention to continue her political activity.
