White Paper on Adriatic-Ionian cultural heritage protection

14 September, 19:34
(ANSA) - SEZANA (SLOVENIA), SEPT. 14 - The sustainable use of limestone, a natural and cultural heritage of the karst areas along the Adriatic and Ionian coast, could not only contribute to improving the sustainable management linked to the extraction and the use of this kind of stone, but also preserving the characteristics of the whole area.

This could also could form the basis for the promotion and development of sustainable tourism, according to the White Book for the protection of the cultural heritage in the limestone karst areas of the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region, which is the result of the Roof of Rock studio project, partners AdriaWealth of the project, with the Apulian Public Theater in the lead role.

The latter has collected 5 projects and met 7 partners, all aiming to unite the two shores of the Adriatic Sea through shared best practices for the development of sustainable tourism. The White Paper was presented and opened for subscription today in Sezana, during the AdriaWealth convention that brought together all project partners. ''The purpose of AdriaWealth is to facilitate the satsifaction of various needs. This is why it brought together several projects, all of them focusing on tourism'', said Lino Manosperta, project of Adria Wealth managers and Archeo.S project and Public Theater Pugliese, meeting with his Croatian counterpart Srecko Radnic, who will hold a similar convention in Split later this month. ''This area also developed a sustainable tourism project, MadPaths, based on 9 inter-connected cities, all overlooking the river Cetina, with 35 environmental, cultural and gastronomic routes, in order to promote the whole territory''. Sustainable tourism represents 35-40% of tourist volume and it is growing at a rate of 15% per annum, three times the global tourism'', said Jana Apih, Slovenian association for Goodplace sustainable tourism. Thus, for example, alternative tourist routes, based on the enhancement of the geological heritage of the territories, can become attractive opportunities even in periods other than the classic ones of the bathing season. This concept is shared on both sides of the Adriatic Sea. As a matter of fact, Antonio Melcore, mayor of Cursi, underlined his experience as a ''partner of a project that brings together various municipalities of the stone district of Lecce, which aims to promote the Apulian Baroque jewels''.
