Weather and less manpower weigh on production, growth in Italy
01 June, 20:37The 2020-2021 wheat harvest, according to the forecast made by the International grains Council (IGC), stands worldwide at 766.1 m tons, exceeding (up 0.6%) the record high hit in 2019-2020 production. However, in Europe (27 members), the overall wheat production is expected to decrease by 23.3 m tons, reaching 131.7 m tons in 2020-2021 (equal to down 15%), and the area dedicated to wheat is expected to decrease (down 3.0%). The 2020-2021 wheat production in Italy increased: 7.4 million tons (+ 13.8%) compared to the 2019-2020 harvest. Furthermore, cereal food consumption increased more than that of animal feed consumption. (ANSA).
