Food: German Bundesrat gave the green light to Nutri-Score

German organic segment is opposed. It penalizes us

(ANSA) - BERLINO, 09 OTT - BERLIN, 09 OCT - Starting from November, producers in Germany will presumably be able to use the Nutri-Score, the 'traffic-light' label, on food products.

The Bundesrat, the Federal Council of Regions, gave the green light to the measure. The labeling will be voluntary and should follow the French system, which summarizes food's nutritional values ;;on an alphabetical scale from A to E, corresponding to different colors. The organic food sector in Germany is opposed to the introduction of Nutri-Score, as it feels penalized by the traffic light system. According to the Federal Association for Food and Natural Products (BNN), Nutri-Score needs to be improved, a statement reads. (ANSA).
