Coronavirus: 600.000+ cases in New Europe,20.682 died
01 August, 12:06Belarus, Moldova, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo are now registering more confirmed total cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy.
The total number of fatalities in the region is 20682 (+151), of which 9134 registered in Germany, 2304 in Romania, 1709 in Poland, 1693 in Ukraine 771 in Moldova, 718 in Austria, 596 in Hungary, 565 in Serbia, 559 in Belarus.
The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (207828, +902 in the last 24 hours), followed by Ukraine (69884, +1090), Belarus (67808, +143), Romania (49591, +1356), Poland (45031, +615), Serbia (25213, +321), Moldova (24343, +396), Austria (21009, +163), and Czechia (16342, +249). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 131862 confirmed cases and 4712 deaths were registered as of July 31.
In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 7144 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (6035), North Macedonia (5111), Montenegro (4929) and Kosovo (4454), compared to 4087 in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (416 per million) and Greece (409 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population (231), followed by Moldova (191), Romania (119) and Germany (110), Slovakia the lowest (5).
Italy has recorded around 581 deaths per million inhabitants.
Between July 20 and July 27, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed cases was observed in Montenegro (+61,0%), Kosovo (+24,6%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+22,2%), Romania (+19,6%) and Bulgaria (+19,4%). Only in Austria, Greece, Lithuania, Hungary, Latvia, Germany, Belarus and Estonia the weekly increase of new cases was below 5%. (ANSA).
