Coronavirus: 351.000+ cases in New Europe,14.565 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 29 MAG - A total of 351.790 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+2741 day-on-day), of which 179117 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, May 28. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region is constantly slowing down in the last weeks, with the exception of Belarus, Moldova, Poland, and Ukraine according to data updated as of May 25. Belarus is now registering more confirmed cases of Covid-19 per million people than Italy. Montenegro did not register any new case already in the past 22 days, according to the latest WHO data.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 14.565 (+112), out of which 8411 registered in Germany, 1219 in Romania, 1028 in Poland, 669 in Ukraine 645 in Austria, 509 in Hungary, 317 in Czechia, 276 in Moldova, 240 in Serbia.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (179117, +353 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (38956, +897), Poland (22473, +399), Ukraine (22382, +477), Romania (18549, +165), Austria (16515, +18), Serbia (11275, +48), Czechia (9086, +36) and Moldova (7537, +232). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 44043 confirmed cases and 2163 deaths were registered as of May 28.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 4104 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3822 in Italy, followed by Moldova (2810) and Germany (2154), while the lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (278 per million) and Greece (270 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, Moldova has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (103), followed by Germany (101), Austria (72) and Romania (63), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 547 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between May 18 and May 25, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+22,0%), Moldova (+17.0%), Poland (+15.1%) and Ukraine (+14.1%). In North Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Latvia, Slovenia, Estonia, Germany, Austria, Greece, Slovakia, Croatia and Montenegro the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%. (ANSA).
