(ANSA) - ROME, JUNE 1 - The 2020-2021 wheat harvest will be bigger than that of the previous one (up 1.8%), as a result of a slight increase in production (up 0.6%) and a more significant amount of the initial stocks (up 5.3). These figures emerged from the comparison between market analysts on the occasion of Romacereali, 13th international meeting of the cereal sector which was organized by Agro Camera, a special company of the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, and held online this year.

The 2020-2021 wheat harvest, according to the forecast made by the International grains Council (IGC), stands worldwide at 766.1 m tons, exceeding (up 0.6%) the record high hit in 2019-2020 production. However, in Europe (27 members), the overall wheat production is expected to decrease by 23.3 m tons, reaching 131.7 m tons in 2020-2021 (equal to down 15%), and the area dedicated to wheat is expected to decrease (down 3.0%). The 2020-2021 wheat production in Italy increased: 7.4 million tons (+ 13.8%) compared to the 2019-2020 harvest. Furthermore, cereal food consumption increased more than that of animal feed consumption. (ANSA).
