To control migratory peaks and cross-border crimes

01 July, 17:44
(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, 01 LUG - Cooperation between Frontex and Montenegro for border management has officially kicked in today.

The agreement was signed on 5th February 2019. From now on, the European agency can deploy its staff at the Montenegrin borders and assist Podgorica's authorities in managing possible migration flows and joint operations against cross-border crimes.

After the mission launched in Albania in May 2019, this is the second time that Frontex deploys its troupes in the Western Balkans. Similar agreements will soon enter into force also with Northern Macedonia (the agreement was signed in July 2018), Serbia (September 2018, currently at the final stage of ratification), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (January 2019).
