(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 15 AGO - The gross domestic product in Romania was lower by 12.3% in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the first quarter of this year, the Romanian National Institute of Statistics (Insse) said.

In a comparison with same quarter of 2019, the Romanian economy contracted by 10.5%, the statistical office informed.

The data "are affected by the difficulties posed by the pandemic crisis," Insse noted.

The 12.3% contraction in the second quarter is "line in market expectations," analysts from ING said today, confirming the forecast for a "5.5% GDP contraction this year." However, for 2021 ING downgraded "our forecast to 5.2% from 7.1% as the economic rebound looks more gradual than expected." (ANSA).
