Tourism: Gialuz (Barcolana), no borders at sea with Slovenia

Meeting with Ambassador to Italy Tomaž Kunstelj

09 July, 20:12
(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 09 LUG - "We cannot afford to take steps back and set up borders at sea, just this year and right in the Gulf of Trieste where, with the Barcolana, in the name of sport and brotherhood between sailors, we have demolished barriers that were then unbreakable," said the president of the sailing company of Barcola and Grignano, Mitja Gialuz, who met today in Trieste with the ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Italy, Tomaž Kunstelj.

According to a press release, the meeting focused on the topics of the synergies related to the promotion of the Barcolana in Slovenia, the Slovenian attendances at the 52nd Barcolana, and the organization of the regatta that brings the Slovenian crews to Trieste (Go to Barcolana from Slovenia). There was also talk of the rule that prevents the owners of non-registered Italian boats from mooring along the Slovenian coast.

"Safety comes first - observed Gialuz - we are all aware of the need for caution and maximum control. However, there are ways to maintain safety and tracking while managing more lightly the registry of incoming and outgoing boats to and from Slovenia. I am thinking of practical and operational solutions - explained Gialuz - that could allow boat owners in the Gulf to return to Slovenia without having to go through the registration of their family boat, which is not necessary according to Italian law." Ambassador Kunstelj, the press release reported, collected the comments of the SVBG president intending to transfer them to the Slovenian government offices that are dealing with the issue. (ANSA).
