(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 12 - In Slovenia, not far
from the capital Ljubljana, a new session of the so-called
Brdo-Brioni summit opened. The regional initiative was started
over the past few years by Slovenia and Croatia with the
objective of supporting and accelerating the European
integration process of other countries from the Western Balkans.
The two promoting countries are the only ones in the region who have adhered to the EU so far, respectively in 2004 and 2013, with Croatia the last State to become a member of the Union.
Today's summit - the 11th edition which is being held in Brdo kod Kranja - with the presidents of Slovenia and Croatia, Borut Pahor and Zoran Milanovic, will be attended by their counterparts from Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, Albania, Bajram Begaj, Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani. Bosnia-Herzegovina will be represented by the three members of the tripartite presidency - the Bosniak rotating president Sefik Dzaferovic, Milorad Dodik (Serbian) and Zeljko Komsic (Croatian).
The process of Brdo-Brioni was started in 2010 by then-Slovenian and Croatian premiers, Borut Pahor and Jadranda Kosor. The regional initiative is promoted alongside similar actions such as the Berlin Process and the strategic summit of Bled.(ANSAmed).
