(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, JULY 10 - More Italian centers of excellence will be collaborating with Elite Medical Services (EMS) to offer the first international service providing medical support and expertise to patients in North Africa and the Middle East who are suffering from serious conditions that cannot be diagnosed or treated at home and who want to be treated in Italy.

Davide Maged, an Italian of Egyptian origin who is an expert in public healthcare and works at the Umberto Primo hospital in Cairo, the Italian hospital in the capital, spoke about the increased cooperation to ANSAmed. The objective, already achieved in over 100 cases since the activity started three years ago, is to assist patients by consulting with internationally-renowned specialists working at major hospitals with which EMS has forged a cooperation.

Maged said he has long forged agreements with doctors in charge of oncological, cardiologic, pediatric, orthopedic and neurological wards. Recently, accords were signed to cooperate with maxillofacial and reconstructive surgery departments.

Moreover, a cooperation has kicked off with the ''medical school of the University of Bari to enable exchange of knowledge and constant scientific and medical development'', said the Italian-Egyptian.

The stated aim of EMS is to provide a connection between the Italian and Egyptian healthcare systems, stressing the consolidated friendship between the two countries in the medical sector. For this reason EMS ''cooperates daily with high-level hospitals in the Egyptian capital so as to maximize results on the patients'', stressed Maged.

Today, Elite Medical Services, thanks to its network of Italian hospitals of excellence, is able to manage a great variety of cases and takes care of all the steps that often make a therapeutic trip from North Africa and the Middle East impossible, for instance getting visas, organizing the logistics of safely transporting a patient and providing a place to stay for those travelling with them.

In this context, Maged has received the support of many Italian and Egyptian institutions to manage the safety of such delicate trips at all times. With the aim of reducing the risks connected with transfers for medical treatment, EMS also provides consultations before a trip with a second-opinion service based on the patient's clinical documents sent to the appropriate centers to evaluate the best course of action.

''Elite Medical Services is currently the only center providing this service in Egypt and the area'' and its only ''objective is to support and advise according to international scientific and ethical criteria patients and their families at a particularly delicate time'', he stressed. (ANSAmed)
