(ANSAmed) - ATHENS, 23 LUG - About a dozen migrants are still missing off the island of Crete following a shipwreck, said the Greek Coast Guard on Friday, which is continuing its search for survivors despite high winds.

Meanwhile 37 migrants, most from Syria and Iraq, were rescued on Thursday evening, port authorities told AFP.

A group of migrants were rescued by helicopter and taken to the nearby island of Karpathos, while others, including a woman and a child, were taken to Lerapetra, on the southeast coast of Crete.

    All tested negative for coronavirus.

According to survivors, there were 10 or 12 other people aboard.
