(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, 05 DIC - The Vice President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas on Monday said "the response to our problems" regarding immigration "is European" and "the best way to deal with it is by working together", while presenting a plan of 20 concrete actions for the western Balkans.

The action plan for the western Balkans selects 20 operational measures around five pillars, explained Schinas.

They include "strengthening the management of borders along routes, speeding up asylum procedures and supporting hosting abilities, fighting migrant trafficking, improving cooperation for readmissions and repatriations and aligning visa policies".

The measures focus on the support or actions of western Balkan partners and on actions within the EU. The objective is to strengthen cooperation on migration and border management with western Balkan partners, in light of their unique status ahead of EU membership and their constant efforts to align with European legislation.

"We have been clear that it is crucial to act, our plan outlines 20 concrete actions that we can take immediately to cut down entry numbers", added Schinas. (ANSAmed).
