(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, JUNE 21 - Among European nations, Italy and Hungary offer the best quality of life for European Jews, while France, Poland and Belgium are at the opposite end of the spectrum, according to a study reported on by Jerusalem Post.

The survey was by the Institute for Jewish Policy Research, a London-based think tank that specializes in contemporary Jewish affairs, and was presented on Monday in Budapest as part of the European Jewish Association (EJA) annual conference.

The institute's Daniel Statsky prepared the report over the past two years, examining how European governments work to increase the quality of life for Jews and analysing eight factors for each country including the fight against anti-Semitism, safety of the local Jewish community, freedom of religion, development of Jewish culture, remembrance of the Holocaust, and the adoption of the definition of anti-Semitism of the International Holocaust Remembrance Association (IHRA), as well as the votes by each country for UN motions on Israel.

Italy came in first for quality of life, followed by Hungary and Denmark.

Rabbi Menachem Margolin, EJA chairman, said that: "The point of the survey is not to attack one government or another, and definitely not to call out one state's antisemitism campaign, but to create a quantitative basis that compares the quality of life."(ANSAmed).
