West Bank: Israel sets up new security barrier

Replacing obsolete barbwire from 20 years ago

22 June, 13:58

(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, JUNE 22 - Israel has started the construction of a new barrier fence between the northern West Bank and its territory. It will include a "protection wall" as well as "technological means" of surveillance, Defense Minister Benny Gantz said.

"We have in this way boosted protection for our sidelines", he added, referring also to a series of Palestinian attacks launched from the West Bank, which over the months of March of April caused several victims in Israeli cities. The new barrier replaces barbed wire of the first fence, built in that area over 20 years ago, which has in the meantime become obsolete. The first part of the new barrier will be 45-km-long and nine meters in height. (ANSA).
