(ANSAmed) - DUBAI, APRIL 25 - Less than a year after its creation, Chiara Comito's blog Editoriaraba has been invited to the ongoing Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.

Born from a passion for literature and for non-Latin alphabets, the blog is the only Italian non-academic site dedicated to Arab literature, treating it not as a niche phenomenon but placing it on an equal footing with American, British, or French letters.

''We should simply let literature speak, without presenting it as an identity, free of stereotypes or connotations'', founder Comito told ANSAmed of her blog, a spin-off of the Arabismo cultural association.

Italian publishing, she says, is rife with stereotypes, which jump to the eye of anyone sensitive to the way books from the Arab or Islamic world are presented.

''The choice of cover photos or images, often with veiled heads or faces or with distorted title translations, are a very Orientalistic way of presenting the content of these books'', Comito explains, adding that this is more common among large mainstream publishers than among smaller indie ones. Editoriaraba's gaze goes beyond literature and as its title indicates, also examines a wide range of issues in the world of Arab world publishing, covering political and social themes. An entire section focuses on ''Arab Spring literature''. (ANSAmed).
