ROME - The military field hospital set up by Italy in the Libyan coastal city of Misrata is now operational, Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti said on Thursday.
The hospital at Misrata airport has 50 beds. It is due to serve forces loyal to the national unity government following a request from Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj.
In addition, training for the Libyan coast guard and navy will begin on October 24, Pinotti said. The training by Italy will be land- and sea-based and discussion of Tripoli's request for 11 patrol boats is also expected to resume, the minister added. "There is dialogue with Libya, we back the government of Al Serraj and are increasingly calling for inclusive capacity in order that all components of the country might be represented," Pinotti said.
