Struggling boats with 232 people off coast of Libya

(ANSAmed) - ROME, APRIL 27 - The NGO SOS Mediterranee said 114 unaccompanied minors were among the 232 migrants it rescued on Tuesday with its ship Ocean Viking.

The migrants were travelling aboard two overcrowded rubber boats in an attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea, and the struggling boats were rescued in international waters off the coast of Libya.

On Tuesday morning a call was made from the boats to Alarm Phone, which said it informed the authorities and SOS Mediterranee.

The Ocean Viking rescued the migrants 32 nautical miles from Zawiya, a coastal city west of Tripoli.

"Several survivors were weak, dehydrated and are now recovering," SOS Mediterranee said on Twitter.

"Some women suffered mild fuel burns and inhaled fumes," it said.
