Morocco: after public hug, two gays arrested

A few hours from Femen protest for homosexuals

05 June, 11:47

(ANSAmed) - ROME, JUNE 5 - Two men, surprised while they were hugging in front of a tower in Rabat celebrating the memory of ex-king Hassan, were arrested by Moroccan police for ''immodest exhibition'', broadcaster Al Aoula reports, identifying the two men and showing their picture. If found guilty, the two risk a sentence of three years in jail.

The double arrest follows by a few hours the detention and expulsion of two French young women from the Femen movement who went topless in front of the Hassan tower in a demonstration to support the rights of homosexuals (simulating a kiss). Morocco over the past few weeks has witnessed a strong debate on the condition of homosexuals after a number of human rights activists have denounced unacceptable discriminations. (ANSAmed)
