Over 70% of Moroccan youths long-term unemployed

Govt figures show only 16.3% of youths 15-24 have a job

    (ANSAmed) - RABAT, AUG 16 - In Morocco, 73.4% of youths have never had a job and seven out of every ten youths (70.4%) have been unemployed for a long time.

    The country's High Commission for Planning (HCP), the government statistics agency, has released the figures for the population between the ages of 15 and 24: 5.9 million youths, very few of whom manage to take an active part in the country.

    Only 16.3% of them are employed (962,000), while 7.6% are seeking a job (448,000) and 76.1% are out of the labor market entirely for now.

    Over six out of every ten youths (64.6%) among the unemployed have a middle-school diploma, 20.6% have a higher level diploma, and 14.8% do not have any diploma.

    A total of 4,478,000 youths - three quarters of the population surveyed - are still in the educational system and 21.1% are young women and girls still living in their parents' home.

    At the national level, unemployment has dropped from 12.8% to 11.2%.

    Moreover, since the beginning of 2022 the Moroccan economy has created 133,000 jobs.(ANSAmed). (ANSA).
