Cinema: Middle East Now festival returns to Florence

Starting 28/9, premiers of 42 films awarded at intl festivals

    (ANSAmed) - FLORENCE, SEPT 23 - Middle East Now, a cultural festival with films, documentaries, art, exhibitions, food, seminars and cultural projects, returns to Florence from 28 September to 3 October with stories, people and current topics from the Middle East and a focus on Afghanistan.

    The festival will hold premier screenings of 42 films that won awards at the best international film festivals, for a cinematic journey that touches the countries of the Middle East: Iran, Iraq, Kurdistan, Israel, Palestine, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Syria, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

    The theme of the 12th edition is "(re)-Aligning Perspectives", the need for an adjustment following the pandemic.

    Events will take place in person at the Cinema La Compagnia and Cinema Stensen as well as other spaces in the city and online.

    The festival also includes a thematic programme dedicated to Afghanistan with a selection of films, documentaries, talks, books, and seminars with eyewitness accounts, all of which will accompany the audience inside a country that is experiencing a serious political and social evolution.

    Among the other special projects is a photo and video exhibition by the Moroccan artist Tabit Rida dedicated to Marrakesh, and an exhibition of drawings by artist of Kuwaiti origin Zahra Marwan on the complexity of being in a completely different country, and a series of talks and workshops with the authors to observe the Middle East from a different point of view.(ANSAmed).
