(ANSAmed) - ISTANBUL, 23 NOVEMBER - "Our operations
conducted with air raids, artillery and armed drones are just
the beginning". This statement was made by Turkish President
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as reported by state-run news agency
Anadolou, while talking about the military offensive in Syria,
which for the moment has only included air raids. The operation
was launched on Sunday by Ankara against the Kurdish forces in
northern Syria and Iraq. The Turkish President noted that "at
the appropriate time" the offensive could include the use of
ground forces and that Turkey is "determined" to secure the
entire border that separates it from Syria and Iraq.
"We shall eradicate the terrorists from Tal Rifat, Manbij and Ayn al-Arab (Kobane)", added Erdogan citing areas of northern Syria that are under the control of Syrian Kurdish forces.
"Those who assured us that Turkey would never have been confronted with air threats from areas under their control have not kept their promises", added the Turkish President with an implicit reference to the United States who have been collaborating for years with the Syrian Kurdish forces in northern Syria to fight the Islamic State.
Moscow's Presidential envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentev, noted, as reported by Russian news agencies, Russia's appeal to Turkey not to begin a ground attack against Syrian Kurds, as this could lead to "an escalation in the entire Middle East".(ANSAmed).
