Tunisian parliament to vote on Mechichi govt 1/9

Line-up of technocrats and independents 'for stability'

26 August, 16:16

(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, 26 AGO - The office of the Tunisian parliament on Wednesday set September 1 as the date on which a confidence vote will be held on the government of prime minister-designate Hichem Mechichi.

On Tuesday, Mechichi presented his government of technocrats and independents - the only ones, in his view, able to ensure a minimum of stability in the country - to President Kais Saied.

Now he will have to get 109 votes in the parliament.

The Democratic Current, the Islamic Ennahdha, and the Islamist coalition al-Karama have already said they will not vote in favour.

The People's Movement will vote in favour but other parties, such as Qalb Tounes and PDL, will decide in the coming days on the basis of the program presented. (ANSAmed).
