(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, FEBRUARY 3 - The Cairo Opera House in the Egyptian capital will host a concert of "Cavalleria rusticana" by Pietro Mascagni - as part of an Italian project aimed at launching new opera talents.

The protagonist is director Isabella Ambrosini who will return for the third time on the podium of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. Ambrosini said she is "very flattered" that the Egyptian theater "has welcomed with enthusiasm the new project 'New Voices of opera', addressed to young Italian emerging talents in the world and coming from all over the world to Italy".

"The Project, which in this edition will be an Italian-Egyptian collaboration, will see the exhibition of four young promises of opera who have been selected by me and taken to Italy", added Ambrosini, speaking to ANSA. The four are: soprano Elena Farnova; mezzosoprano Tiziana Fabietti; baritone Alessio Quaresima Escobar; Korean tenor Davide Ryu. The latter, who already has a career and is a mature performer despite his young age, studied in Italy, at the Accademia Lirica in Osimo (Ancona).

The "Progetto Nuove Voci della Lirica" has been developed since 2014 by the "Associazione InCANTO" of which Ambrosini is artistic director. She selects the participating singers.

The initiative includes laboratories for the training of artists in the choir, soloist singers, auditions and master classes for singers held by great performers for operas and concerts also held at the Auditorium Parco della Musica and "Palladium" theater in Rome.

The performances have become a festival - an international event for the past four years; the 2018 edition took place in collaboration with the National theater of Slovakian opera in Bratislava at the Sala Sinopoli of the Auditorium Parco della Musica, while the edition last year, after a break due to the pandemic, opened with "Gianni Schicchi" by Puccini at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome.

The Cavalleria Rusticana is Mascagni's most famous opera, inspired by Giovanni Verga's novel by the same name. "I am extremely flattered that Maestro Ahmed El Saedi gave me the direction of this beautiful opera, exceptionally including it in the symphonic season", said Ambrosini, referring to the main founder and president of the "Egyptian Philharmonic Society".

Maestro Ambrosini, who is a director at leading musical institutions like Rome's Accademia di Santa Cecilia, as well as in several other theaters and concert halls, is also an artistic and musical director of the Orchestra Roma Sinfonica and Coro Roma Tre, which she has founded. (ANSAmed).
