Italy: UNHCR selects 8 associations for PartecipAzione

Programme for refugees by UN agency and INTERSOS

    (ANSAmed) - ROME, 21 APR - Eight associations in Italy have been chosen as part of the 4th edition of PartecipAzione, the programme by INTERSOS and UNHCR to promote active participation by refugees in Italian economic, social and cultural life.

    Eight organisations have been chosen for the 4th edition of PartecipAzione, the programme by INTERSOS and UN Refugee Agency UNHCR to promote refugee rights, integration and social cohesion in the receiving community. Six of the chosen projects are immediately fundable and two will be financed based on further availability of funding. The programme is aimed at local organisations working with refugees and the initiative includes a training course, financing and networking possibilities.

    The chosen associations According to a statement, the organisations chosen with immediately fundable projects are: Il faro del borgo (Puglia), C.U.C.I.R.E. (Sicily), Smiling Coast of Africa (Puglia), Genitori Scuola Di Donato association (Lazio), SottoilBaobab (Piedmont), and Fuori Mercato cultural association (Lombardy).

    The organisations chosen with projects to be financed based on further available funding, which is still being verified, are: Circolo culturale radioattiva (Tuscany) and Interculturale Universo association (Emilia-Romagna). UNHCR said the chosen organisations are refugee associations or organisations with projects involving refugees, and were considered the most deserving of the 49 proposals received, based on 2021 submission criteria.

    PartecipAzione initiatives The chosen projects will begin immediately, with financing from 5,000 to 8,000 euros for each organisation. In addition, all of the associations that participated in the 2021 selection process will be able to take part in a training course made up of various areas: grant writing and project management; communications and fundraising; research on financing sources and donor relations; protection of asylum seekers and international protection holders; and community-centered approaches. To participate, eligible organisations must send an email by April 26 to: In 2018, PartecipAzione supported the growth of 10 associations in five regions, in 2019 of 16 associations in 11 regions, and in 2020 of eight associations in eight regions.
