(ANSAmed) - PALERMO, 05 AGO - The fourth edition of the theater event "Lucciole e silenzio" (fireflies and silence) is opening on Sunday, August 7, on Mount Adranone, the archaeological area at 1000 meters of height which dominates the Belice Valley and Sambuca di Sicilia, on the island of Sicily.

At sunset Sunday, 'Oedipus at Colonus' by Sophocles will debut nationally, with the interpretation of Gina Merulla, the artistic director of Hamlet theater. "A physical-performative theater - said the director -, the idea stems from a meeting with Mamadou Dioume, a Senegalese actor from Peter Brook's historic group, with whom he realized the celebrated "Mahabharata". Today, Mamadou, 77, knows very well the terrible feeling of having to abandon his home, the loneliness, and of feeling different and refused. This brings him closer to Oedipus, who suffered an adverse fate. Guilty and innocent at the same time, he now wanders towards Colonus".

The director explains that she has worked on the "actor's body, his physical part, but everything comes from within, the body obeys to the transformations of the soul, it follows inner reality.

However, the story is obviously totally respected, including the voice-over of Edoardo Siravo who narrates what happened in Thebes and what Oedipus is experiencing in Colonus, where he finds hospitality with King Theseus". Oedipus is a tragedy of fate and, since the beginning, the end is tied to the strings that bind him and lead him perhaps where he does not want to go.

"But Oedipus - observed Merulla, citing the current theme of migrants - is also a foreigner, he is not welcomed with benevolence, he is actually told 'let's free ourselves from the contamination of this man', there are so many similarities to what we are experiencing today. He and his daughter Antigone are two beggars, in search of asylum, they give one another strength, but then Creon who becomes king of Thebes will tear away Antigone to bring her back home".

After Adranone, the performance will be in Segesta, for the Festival on August 8,9 and 10. The cast includes Alberto Bucco, Fabrizio Ferrari, Carlotta Mancini, David Marzì and Lorenza Sacchetto. The music reinterpreted in an electronic version is originally by Albinoni, Vivaldi and Beethoven. (ANSAmed).
