(ANSAmed) - DUBAI - With an excursion from the flat desert scenes of Dubai to the rocky, more jagged panoramas of Hatta 160 km further north, Alfa Romeo's MiTo and Giulietta have officially made their entrance into the United Arab Emirates (UAE) market, the latest step in Fiat Chrysler's consolidation and expansion strategy in the Middle East.

''In 2012 it was Bahrain and Saudi Arabia's turn, and they then enriched our regional presence in Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon and Palestine,'' ANSA was told by Jack Rodencal, Fiat Chrysler's director for the Middle East. He added that ''Oman, Jordan and Iraq are scheduled to come onboard in 2013.'' The group's presence in the Middle East has undergone steady consolidation over the past three years, with 68% growth in 2012 compared with average growth in the market of 24%. The two Alfa Romeos will be distributed by the 24 concessionaires in the region. While retaining the concept, design and unique features of the Giulietta and MiTo global versions, the models have been modified to meet the climatic challenges of the oil-rich Gulf countries, where temperatures rise above 50 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Giulietta and MiTo, stars of the day, ''are only the beginning of the Alfa Romeo offensive'' in the region. ''The aim is to double the 2011 sales volume and reach 4,200 vehicles,'' said Louis Carl Vignon, Alfa Romeo director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In this internet era of ours, the strategy also focuses on social networks, with the Facebook page for the Middle East in Arabic and English.
