Crisis: Greece; incomes of retired MPs drop by over 50%

12 February, 12:58

(ANSAmed) - ATHENS, FEBRUARY 12 - Monthly pensions have been slashed by 54.7% since 2010 for former prime ministers and 51.1% for retired deputies, daily Kathimerini reports citing data data released by the Finance Ministry. Further cuts are expected as of April 1. The pension for a retired premier has dropped from 4,679 euros per month in December 2009 to 2,561 euros this February, according to the ministry report. The monthly pension of an MP currently stands at 1,976 euros, down from 3,866 euros three years ago. The pension cuts are in line with Greece's attempts to reduce costs in the public sector as demanded by the country’s international creditors. (ANSAmed).
