Greece?s civil service in the first half of 2013, according to a
new website that keeps track of the number of public sector
workers. According to the site, http://apografi.yap.gov.gr/, the
state currently employs 614,053 people. Of these, some 92,500
work at local authorities. The biggest employer is the Education
Ministry, which has 184,292 staff, which includes teachers. Just
over 40% of civil servants have a university education and more
than a third are aged between 40 and 49, as Kathimerini reports.
