(ANSAmed) - ATHENS - Greek public workers with the Attica region on Thursday will stage a four-hour strike (from 10 am until 2 pm) called by Adedy, one of the country's main unions representing the public sector, against the government's decision to ban a demonstration called on January 8 in Athens as part of protests against Greece's EU rotating presidency and to express solidarity to Pavlos Antonopoulos, a member of the union's board, who was arrested that day for taking part in the demonstration.
'Adedy calls on workers to express solidarity on Thursday, January 23, the day of Antonopoulos' trial, to demand his acquittal', read a statement released by the union. 'We also invite colleagues to take part in the protest of employees of the national healthcare service (Eopyy) which will take place at 10'.
Doctors with Eopyy, who decided on Wednesday to prolong a strike until February 7 against government health policies, will meet Thursday at 11 am in front of national social security agency Ika and will participate at 1 pm in a demonstration organized by doctors and public hospital staff.
