WB: Serbia has IT success stories, must go forward

11 February, 15:44

(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, 11 FEBRUARY - Serbia has success stories concerning new technologies, but it must take a step forward, introduce technologies in all sectors, and thus step up productivity, Deepak Mishra from the World Bank said on Thursday.

Commenting on the fact that Serbian IT experts made software for the FBI, Mishra described this as a success story, but that one should take into account that the IT sector is small and accounts for just around 4 percent of GDP, and 2 percent of the total number of people in work.

Serbia has many success stories, but the question is whether all citizens benefit from that. Many countries would like to have a Silicon Valley, but that is not the most important thing, Mishra told at the presentation of a World Bank study titled "World Development Report 2016: Digital Dividends" at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
