(ANSAmed) - ALEXANDRIA OF EGYPT, SEPTEMBER 19 - The port of
Venice is working on a memorandum of understanding with the
customs of Alexandria in Egypt ahead of a cooperation with all
of Egypt, said the president of the port authority of the
northern Adriatic Sea - Ports of Venice and Chioggia, Pino
Musolino. He stressed that the operation is part of Venice's
role as the New Silk Road that China is organizing through Egypt
and its Suez Canal.
''We have already started discussing to sign a MOU with the customs of Alexandria first, then we will see if we are able to do it also with the Egyptians in general'', said Musolini on the sidelines of the forum in Alexandria of Egypt called ''Egyptian-Italian dialogue on maritime economy''.
The aim, he added, is to ''exchange good practices and especially create forms of boosted cross-custom and cross-border cooperation''.
''We have navigation lines well under way with Alexandria, Damietta, Port Said'', said Musolino, ''and we are continuing to work on this, verifying the possibility of optimizing, under a win-win perspective, as the Chinese say, relations and exchanges between Egypt and Italy''.
''We can't ignore the calls and intuitions that the Chinese have launched with the Belt and road initiative'', said the head of the Venice port authority, referring to the new silk road, ''because, within this great infra-structural and trade plan, the passage through the Suez Canal and Egypt is fundamental''.
