Coronavirus: +300,000 unemployed workers in Spain in March

    (ANSAmed) - ROME, APRIL 2 - Over 300,000 additional unemployed workers were reported in March in Spain as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic, the government said Thursday, based on applications for unemployment benefits.

    A reported 302,265 have become jobless due to the coronavirus emergency in Spain. According to Spanish media, the country has registered its highest unemployment rate ever - at the moment the highest in the Eurozone after Greece, at 13.8%.

    Over the first 12 days of lockdown alone, which started on March 14 in Spain, 2,857 people lost their jobs, according to the available data.

    Services paid the highest prince with 206,016 people without a job.

    All sectors of the Spanish economy were affected: construction (+59,551 unemployed), industry (+25,194) and agriculture (+6,520).(ANSAmed).
