(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, MAY 3 - A delegation of the Tunisian government will be in Washington on Monday to negotiate a new funding program with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and US Treasury, the Tunisian cabinet said. It noted that a credible reform plan, which has already been studied in detail, will need to be presented in order for talks to be successful.

Tunisia will ask for a loan of 4 billion dollars from the IMF and talks are expected to last about two months, Mechichi told the media, adding that an agreement will enable the North African country to obtain the financial support it needs to overcome the economic crisis aggravated by the impact of the coronavirus epidemic. "During our visit, a program will be presented that will include clear, realistic and doable reforms", said the Tunisian minister of the economy, finance and support to investments, Ali Kooli before his departure.

"Our program of reforms is complete. It illustrates the chapter of Tunisian budget, or the way to manage its funding, the monetary and economic chapters concerning the methods to fight inflation and relaunch growth, as well as the chapter on the restructuration of institutions and structures". We had talks with our social sides (Utap Utica e Ugtt) to revise the way of governance of public companies and the type of support they obtain from the state", said Kooli.

"We don't accept orders from anybody. We have a clear mandate from the Tunisian people, through parliamentary representation, to guide the country's growth and wellbeing. To this end, we will take all the necessary measures. The Tunisian government will work to increase the purchasing power of citizens".

The reform plan to be presented to the IMF is based on six main issues: liberalization of the economy and improvement of the entrepreneurial climate, improvement of the fiscal system, revision of the system of compensations and subsidies, reform of public institutions, transformation of public companies and investments and economic relaunch program.
