Spain: deputy PM in Algeria to discuss gas provisions

Contract expiring on gas pipeline passing through Morocco

27 October, 16:08

(ANSAmed) - MADRID, OCTOBER 27 - Spain's deputy premier and minister for ecological transition, Teresa Ribera, is awaited Wednesday in Algeria, according to the official agenda of the government. As stressed by Spanish media, the mission is coming a few days before the expiration of a contract for the provision of gas through a pipeline arriving in Spain from Algeria through Morocco. The agreement could not be renewed after Algiers interrupted diplomatic relations with Rabat in the summer. This should be the topic at the center of conversations between Ribera and Algerian authorities.

Madrid's first alternative is to obtain the gas it needs through a pipeline that does not cross Moroccan territory, a perspective already guaranteed by authorities of the North African country to the Spanish government, according to statements made a few weeks ago by Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares.(ANSAmed).
