10 April, 14:02

(ANSAmed) - MADRID, APRIL 10 - A wind power farm in Jordan, the creation of a Mediterranean platform for promoting the culture of water, programmes directed at reinforcing civic education in schools and stimulating the creation of green industries and entrepreneurship. These are some of the projects approved in a high level meeting of the 43 countries belonging to the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), which took place last April 7-8 at its headquarters in the Pedralbes building in Barcelona.

Among training programmes, particular attention was given to the prevention of violence against girls and women. The aim was established to carry out scholastic education projects as a primary vehicle for transmitting values of inclusion, sustainable development, freedom and gender equality through the establishment of a new civic education curriculum.

One programme in particular will proceed toward the joint analysis of textbook materials in the secondary schools of Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco, from the perspective of civic education and equality between men and women. The project includes the production of new texts and the revision of current national scholastic programmes, guided by civic education teachers and their coordination at national and regional levels.

The programme was promoted by the Spanish NGO Ideaborn in cooperation with NGOs in Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco, and will be implemented in partnership with the national educational institutions of the three participating countries.

As for the establishment of a Mediterranean Water Knowledge Platform, promoted by the International Office for Water and by the Mediterranean Water Institute, the project aims at cultivating and sharing knowledge on the culture of water in five pilot countries: Jordan, Lebanon, Monaco, Morocco, Spain and Tunisia. The objective is to contribute to improving dialogue and planning processes among stakeholders, with the creation of an infrastructure databank supplied by the project to offer added value services and to contribute to sustainable growth in Mediterranean countries and to promote regional investment. The ultimate aim of the Water Knowledge Platform is to develop sustainable policies for the integrated management of water resources and adaptation to climate change. (ANSAmed).
