(ANSAmed) - ROME, JUNE 8 - Art as a tool to break down cultural barriers will be at the center of the online dialogue "Arts and Education for Intercultural Cities: Local Platforms for Dialogue" organized by the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF).

The dialogue will be held June 9 at 3 PM on Zoom and is the fourth public dialogue of the marathon in the EuroMed region by the foundation, alongside dozens of online activities between May 19 and June 29.

The presentation of the event cited the Anna Lindh Intercultural Trends Survey 2020 on the importance of civil society initiatives that foster artistic expression and multicultural events in managing diversity.

It noted that 83% of respondents to a survey in Europe and 88% of those in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEM) believe that cultural and artistic initiatives foster better coexistence in multicultural environments.

It went on to note that culture and arts can be provided by education and that a synergy between education, art and culture was shown by the ALF survey, which found that 73% of respondents in Europe and 72% in the SEM area see schools as places where children learn diversity.

ALF's virtual marathon for dialogue in the EuroMed region includes weekly virtual dialogues open to the public and dozens of events organized by the ALF civil society network and partner organizations over 42 days.

The virtual marathon aims to highlight the importance of multicultural dialogue to build sustainable societies in the EuroMed region while taking into account the challenges and opportunities offered by the COVID pandemic, a statement said.
