(ANSAmed) - NAPLES, MAY 3 - The Giffoni Film Festival is scheduled to return on July 21-31. The event dedicated to children and teens has been taking place in the town in the province of Salerno for the past 51 years. The young jurors will return to movie theaters in total safety after a year that changed their lives, organizers said. Over 100 films will compete for an award, in addition to events dedicated to the best cinema debuts and the participation of 150 Italian and international guests who will meet the 'giffoners'. Feature films and documentaries will be seen and voted by some 3,000 girls and boys from Italy and other countries who will be attending in person. The final number will be confirmed, according to rules in July. Another 2,000 jurors will follow the edition online thanks to 50 national and 20 international hubs.

Participants will cement their collective identity in the long-awaited event. Giffoni's movies and the dialogue between actors and directors and youths represent, said the director of Giffoni Opportunity Claudio Gubitosi, a "cry of happiness during a year in which it will still be necessary to respect rules to be able to fly, in 2022, on the wings of freedom".

The selection of themes was carefully considered: after 14 months of restrictions that forced all of society, in particular youths, to freeze their expectations, dreams and hopes, it was fundamental to offer boys and girls an opportunity to reflect on fantasy, love, great passions, as well as the delicate relationship between parents and children, generational conflicts and internal strength that can fight fear and leave space to courage and enthusiasm.

A total of 2,550 works have already been preselected - including short and feature films - and are being evaluated by the Giffoni team. The deadline to enroll is May 31. The films that have already been chosen are from the Antilles, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, India, Iran, Israel, Morocco, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Qatar, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, the US.

The edition will include activities outdoors, in the arena of Piazza Fratelli Lumière with music for a maximum of 1,000 people. The Giardino degli Aranci will be dedicated to performances for families. (ANSAmed)
