Libya: after assassinations, Misrata beefs up security

Weapons ban, curfew, and checkpoints against militia

28 January, 17:43

(ANSAmed) - ROME, JANUARY 28 - The Misrata city council on Monday banned unauthorized arms and imposed a partial curfew in an effort to curb militia violence, Libyan media reported. The new measures follow on the assassination on Saturday of city council member Mohamed Ben Othman, and on those of two security officers on Wednesday. Check points have been set up throughout the city. Any vehicle carrying unauthorized weapons will be impounded and its occupants arrested, as will anyone circulating armed during the curfew. Vehicles with no license plates or with tinted windows will be impounded. (ANSAmed).
