Egypt: army in Suez cities to defend strategic sites

Political conflict harms future generations, Defense minister

29 January, 10:17

(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, JANUARY 29 - The army has been deployed in the cities of Port Said and Suez to defend strategic sites on the Suez Canal, Defense Minister and Commander in Chief Abdel Fatah el-Sisi told reporters on Tuesday.

The army's job is to defend ''strategic and vital targets'', and any attempt to put them at risk is ''a threat to national security and the future of the country,'' the minister warned.

''The Egyptian army remains united. It is the spinal cord of the state itself, because it is the army of all Egyptians regardless of their affiliation,'' el-Sisi said. ''Divergences between political forces on how the country should be run will lead to its demise and is a threat to future generations.'' (ANSAmed).
