(ANSAmed) - MADRID, APRIL 4 - The Madrid Supreme Court on
Thursday upheld a lower court ruling that a high school could
ban a female student for wearing an Islamic veil to class.
The student's family had appealed that decision to the Supreme Court on grounds that Camilo Jose' Cela high school violated the girl's right to personal dignity and to religious freedom. The Supreme Court cited internal school regulations as well as a royal decree, which forbids ''wearing hats or anything else covering the head within school premises''.(ANSAmed).
