(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, NOVEMBER 22 - The Tunisian military last night started carpet bombing vast wooded tracts of the Chaambi and Sammama mountains along the Algerian border in an effort to destroy Islamic terrorist hideouts, Defense Ministry spokesman Tawfik Rahmouni made known on Friday.

The raids employed rockets and heavy artillery, he said.

The area has in past months seen fierce clashes between elite Tunisian forces and Islamist militias often ending in hand-to-hand combat.(ANSAmed).
