(ANSAmed) - POZZALLO (SICILY) - Police in Ragusa, Sicily have ascertained that Palestinian and Syrian migrants are utilizing social networks to aid in the goal of getting passage to Northern Europe via Italy, officials reported on Monday.

Data emerged during the investigation of four smugglers as part of the larger investigation of Sunday's arrival of 864 migrants in Pozzallo on the naval ship San Giusto. According to the indictment, each of them guided many boats rescued in the Sicilian channel.

Posted on Facebook in Arabic, a broker, whose profile was fake, provided contacts and possible meetings to organize the trip. Additionally, Facebook pages exist where refugees who have migrated to Europe provide contacts and information about their experience. Several of Syrian families who came to Pozzallo used these contacts as starting points. Together with their families, they boarded dilapidated boats and faced life-threatening turbulent seas. They were rescued by the Italian navy, who had difficulty navigating the rough seas, and then transported to Pozzallo. About 400 of them have already been transferred to other centers, while others will depart from Comiso in a charter flight to the North Italy.(ANSAmed).
