(ANSAmed) - AMMAN, OCTOBER 13 - Jordanian security forces has allegedly foiled an attempt by the Islamic State (IS) to assassinate a military pilot in the national air force who is taking part in attacks on the group in Syria and Iraq, local press said today.

Two Syrian nationals are standing trial for the botched attempt which took place in the northern city of Irbid, town of Hawara in June this year, said al Rai newspaper.

The men had rented a house near the pilot residence and observed his movement ahead of carrying out their plan, which was uncovered by security before it took place, said the newspaper quoting official sources.

The pro-government paper said that a third suspect, known as al Homsi, remains at large while the two suspects are awaiting trial at the military-run state security court.

Name of the targeted pilot was mentioned during a video for the killing of Jordanian pilot Moath al Kassasbeh, who was burnt alive by IS earlier this year after he was captured during a mission over city of Raqa.

The government in Amman has intensified security procedures this year after announcing it was taking part in attacks on IS in Syria and Iraq, while it is also hosting international troops participating in the US-lead attacks. (ANSAmed).
