TEL AVIV - The Israeli army has announced it is closing border crossings with the West Bank and Gaza on Wednesday on the eve of Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year) that starts tonight. The routine measure will be in place until Saturday also based on the ''situation'' on the ground, the army added.
During the period of closure, exceptions will be made for humanitarian reasons or for other causes. Israeli police said it has boosted the presence of officers across Jerusalem, as usual during this time of the year, to ensure order during festivities that start with the New Year and will be followed later this month by Yom Kippur and then Sukkot.
The closure of crossings, the army said, is aimed at preventing terror attacks and enabling security forces to celebrate the holidays.
