(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, MARCH 7 - At least one person has died and two were injured in gunfire on Wednesday afternoon at the Palestinian camp of Shatila, in the southern outskirts of Beirut, according to Lebanese security sources quoted by local media.

The clashes, in which eye witnesses said RPG rockets were used, occurred between militants from Al Fatah and rival group Al Saaiqa. The website of Lebanese newspaper Daily Star reported that the murdered militant is the brother of the head of the local Al Fatah office.

The causes of the gunfire are still unclear. A resident said that the clashes lasted for about an hour and ended at sunset.

Under an agreement between Lebanese and Palestinian authorities, Beirut's army doesn't walk into the 12 Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, leaving Palestinian factions in charge of security. (ANSAmed)
