'News of mass escape near airport'

CAIRO - The UNHCR and the Libyan interior ministry have arranged for the relocation of 800 migrants to a safer detention center. The migrants had been endangered by clashes between militias in Tripoli in the Triq al-Matar camp. The transfer was reported to ANSA through a message by an official source from the Libyan section of the UNHCR itself. The statement neither confirmed nor denied news of the escape of hundreds of African migrants from the same center near the airport, reported by humanitarian sources. It simply noted that it was aware of information that refugees and migrants in the Triq al-Matar detention center had left after clashes spread to near the center. The movement of the 800 people was organized in coordination with the interior ministry and the crisis committee set up by the deputy minister for illegal migration, UN agencies and LibAid, UNHCR's partner, the statement said.
