'Wadi Doum 2' from place in Chad where strongman was defeated

(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, APRIL 5 - The new coalition of militias ''western region'' has launched the operation ''Wadi Doum 2'' to counter the attack of Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar in Tripoli, according to Libyan media including the Libya Observer.

The code name comes from the military landing strip built by Muammar Gaddafi in northern Chad where Haftar was defeated and captured by government forces in 1987 when he was fighting the Libyan leader, the Libya Herald recalls.

Meanwhile the 'west military zone' of the national unity government of premier Fayez al-Sarraj said it was able to ''reject an attack carried out by groups belonging to Haftar in the areas of Abu Shiba and Al Hira'', west of Garian, Alwasat reports. ''Short clashes were reported between the forces in the area of Hira'', according to Libya Herald. A military source was quoted as reporting fighting in the area and two other zones by the broadcaster Al Ahrar. (ANSAmed).
