LAMPEDUSA (AGRIGENTO) - A march took place Thursday on Lampedusa to mark the anniversary of the October 3, 2013 shipwreck in which 366 migrants drowned.
The march, which started from Piazza Castello and ends at the Porta d'Europa (Europe's Door) monument, included a large crowd of local citizens, represented by associations, law enforcement, institutions, and about 500 students from Italian and European schools wearing shirts with the hashtag "I'm a Fisherman" (#iosonopescatore).
Two thousand of the shirts were distributed by the EU project "Snapshots from the Borders", which is headed by Lampedusa.
The shirts aim to remind people that the "law of the sea" is the only law that should be referred to when a life is at risk at sea.
